Phnom Penh Activity

28 August 2005

There are no deaf organizations in Cambodia so one of the new projects of the Deaf Development Program is to set up deaf groups in Phnom Penh and other parts of the country. The goal is to bring deaf people together so they can meet each other--most deaf people in Cambodia have never met another deaf person--and start to acquire an identity. As groups become established, leaders will appear and we can offer training to them. DDP hosts a gathering once a month in Phnom Penh.

The venue now, because we've outgrown our DDP office grounds, is Wat Than, a Buddhist temple which used to be the site of Maryknoll's skills training program for people with disabilities. Now it is the home of the Cambodian Disabled People's Organization.
